The Coordination and Support Action BE READY launched a stakeholder workshop to validate and receive input for the newly developed Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) in support of the upcoming European Partnership for Pandemic Preparedness.

The workshop took place on 10th January 2024 at the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) in Vienna. A total of 113 participants (online and in person) took the opportunity to share their views on research priorities to establish a European research and innovation ecosystem that is prepared for future emerging health crises.

The open discussion resulted in an overall validation of the identified thematic priorities and strategic objectives. The next step in the development of the SRIA will be the consolidation of the inputs coming from participants of the stakeholder workshop as well as from written comments received after the workshop. Beyond that, a public consultation of the consolidated pre-final SRIA will take place later in 2024 resulting in the final SRIA.

The stakeholder workshop was a pre-final step in the development of the SRIA in support for the future European Partnership for Pandemic Preparedness. In summary, all received feedback pooled together, resulted in a generally positive opinion about the SRIA draft.

No major gaps, missing priorities or inappropriate actions were identified. The results from the break-out sessions confirmed an overall validity, comprehensiveness and urgency of the presented thematic priorities and strategic objectives.

Apart from that, few valuable minor suggestions and adaptations on the priorities as well as strengthening in wording of the existing priorities were received. The input generated from the workshop will be transferred to the SRIA drafting group for further discussion. In addition, participants were given the opportunity to send written comments on the SRIA until end January.

After consolidation of the inputs coming from the stakeholder workshop and the written comments, there will be a public consultation of the SRIA in autumn 2024.
